EVANESCENT APRIL
I have forgotten now one magic April
With rainbows after every transient rain;
The night, all drenched in misty yellow moonlight
When we picked hawthorn blossoms in the lane.
I have forgotten now the dream we lived in
That spring when we were young and very sure
That love like ours would only last forever...
Our opalescent castles would endure.
Oh yes, I have forgotten you completely...
Your smile-curved lips, your laughing, roguish eyes.
It would have been quite foolish to remember...
I choose the only way that would be wise.
And now I wonder why I should be breathless,
Just why it always makes my heart stand still
To catch a glimpse of snow hawthorn blossoms
Like white spun lace, upon a moonlit hill.
